RE: pet peave

Try this. When they answer the phone say "I guess that concludes our transaction to your satisfaction and start to walk out". Bet they get off the phone fast then. Wish I had the guts to do that....lol Maybe if I handed her/him a card with those words on it! The one that drives me nuts is going through a drive thru and ordering (from their menu) only to be asked (after they take my money) to wait in the parking lot and they will bring my order out to me. The parking lot is usually so full that that is the reason i used the drive thru. They have forgotten what the meaning of FAST FOOD is. My wife gets so mad at me when I say "I have the time to wait right here". I don't really care if their drive thru meets a quota of $17.05 a minute (per window). Guess I am getting a little cranky as I get older...... Those darn baby boomer's (may be the last generation for a while that has money).

RE: Input from members

The forum should lean towards the interest of all members. Not just the ones that don't like specific topics. I recommended a very long time ago that if you do not want to see a thread an option should exist to block a thread (just like blocking a member). To me it is a waste of time and space and energy to SEE WHO CAN COUNT TO 1,000. I do believe that those that like counting and word games have the right and freedom to do so as long as they agree that I have a right not to be bothered by those threads. Not bashing, just my humble opinion. I don't return as often as I once did. So maybe my vote does not matter.

RE: If Ford, GM, and Chrysler were to go out of business.....

If Ford, GM, Chrysler would close, this forum would have a lot less posts. Now that's funny :B But we would all learn to count and do word puzzles and have more room to fill pages with nothings.

RE: A view from within GM

Another solution to GM's cash problem is simple. GM's market capital stands at roughly $1.8 billion dollars. The UAW could buy out GM lock stock and barrel, with proceeds from their pension fund, thereby owning the company that they now work for. All of America could then see how well the UAW-employee owned GM would do in this day and age. Take your pick, UAW.....buy the company, or lose many of your jobs and ALL of your power after the company is declared insolvent through filing of bankruptcy. Boy did you ever Skid into that one! Right on!!!!! Wonder how that UAW membership vote tally would look like? On a little different note........ I believe that the future should offer a car without an engine but with a standard adapter so we could build, buy, insert power source here. That way the assembly lines would be easier to adapt. like Lego's.

RE: A view from within GM

The employees aren't the problem. They are just taing what they are given and generally along for the ride. They build what they are told to and how they are told to. Upper tier management is the problem. There is more to a car than MPG and reliability. You are almost correct, Management is the problem. Management should have stopped that employee ride a long time ago and told them to 'get off - your time is up'. Failing to do this now points to the real problem that clearly indicates that the management should be replaced. It is not about building and producing....... That is proved. It is about sound management and earning a wage in perspective of what is returned for that wage. =================================== I too had a plant tour where my truck was built. The tour guide was a retired management GM guy that started at the bottom and worked every job in that plant into a management job after 35 years. He loved the work. He conducted tours after retirement. Half way through the tour I said " I have not seen a job yet that I could not train a teenager to do in less than 10 min". He response "when the tour is over you will still be saying that". Then he proceeded to explain the wages, benefits the hiring practices and the overtime. in short: no wonder it is hard to compete. The only way you can compete with that is to lock down the shores and do not allow imports of any kind. Ever read The Rubber Rooms Times have changed. This must change. Failure to address this will have a direct impact on 1 in every 10 jobs in the USA. If that does not scare you then " I give up ". Employees are not to blame. The system is.

RE: Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae....

I hope the tax dollars will be bailing out Wally world when they start buying everything at non profit prices. Buy a car, drive off the lot and drop 30% = tough luck. Buy a mortgage at 115% of value and the buyer walks away = Free Bailout by tax payer? When you cannot see the logic follow the financial trail. Somebody knows somebody and charges will not be laid for about five years from now. After the senate review of criminal activity. IMHO geez Barb, i'm on a diet and you mention jr. Mints! not fair!

RE: cancer

Known a few and have been a driver for cancer care. Have you seen this before? Cancer research and treatment is a multi-billion dollar business. And there's no such thing as an inexpensive treatment and no one - within the system - seems to be looking for one. This film documents how alternative approaches to treatment are brutally oppressed: http://www.brasschecktv.com/page/69.html

RE: External hard drives

Have two computers and each uses an external hard drive for backup. I create operating system DVD's for recovery and place my data on external drives so I can restore data. What I need is some type of software that will restore my windows registry settings.

RE: why do people do this?

In my younger years (about) 25 years ago I went to lunch with an older man. He was getting upset at aggressive drivers that were wound up so tight that they were mad, they were behind him and they made it obvious. This old man says "watch this guy behind me" as he stopped two car lengths back at a red light in a STRAIGHT through lane. Only 3 cars behind. The person behind him honked his horn, was very upset and was throwing his arms in the air while he looked all around for supporters. The light turned green everyone made it through and he passed petal to the metal. This old man did nothing wrong. In fact he taught me a lesson about the unpredictable habits of other drivers. We have seen breathalyzers installed in cars but I think we need a machine to detect high blood pressure. If over XXX car will stall (within 60 seconds). Until lowered it will not start. Lives would be saved.

RE: thought it would never get here!

Worked since I was 15. Retired 13 months ago from a good job. I said "I am going to take a year off and do nothing". Did that. Glad I did. love them grandkids. It takes determination to learn to relax. It has it's draw backs though. I can't seem to get the smile off my face and my Dr. does not care one darn bit about it! lol - he's still working.

RE: New Truck ?????

No Diesel experience here but do feel that from my readings any 07-08 truck would pull what you mentioned. Dodge, Ford and GM each have a gas engine that will pull that amount. If you do not upgrade the trailer. Creature comforts would drive my decision. I was spoiled when I bought mine and would consider any new GM or Ford now if I upgraded to a Diesel. Good luck!
